Our Story

Nestled in the heart of Livermore, California, our story at El Charro is one steeped in tradition, passion, and the vibrant flavors of Mexico. As a cherished family-owned establishment, our journey began with a simple dream: to share the authentic taste of our heritage with our community. Passed down through generations, our recipes are a testament to the rich tapestry of Mexican culinary artistry, each dish crafted with love and care. From the sizzle of our fajitas to the aroma of freshly made tortillas, every bite tells a story of our dedication to preserving the essence of Mexican cuisine. As we welcome you into our home, we invite you to savor not just our food, but the warmth of our hospitality and the spirit of familia that has defined us for decades. Join us at El Charro, where every meal is a celebration of tradition, family, and the joy of sharing a taste of Mexico.

Beyond our commitment to culinary excellence, El Charro embodies a spirit of community and togetherness that extends far beyond our dining tables. For us, every patron is not just a guest, but a member of our extended familia. Whether you're joining us for a casual meal with friends or celebrating life's milestones with a grand fiesta, our goal remains the same: to create memorable experiences that leave a lasting impression. We take pride in being more than just a restaurant; we're a gathering place where laughter is shared, stories are told, and memories are made. From our family to yours, we welcome you to immerse yourself in the warmth and authenticity of El Charro, where every visit is an opportunity to create new traditions and forge lasting connections.

The Meaning Behind the Name

El Charro is the traditional horseman from Mexico who participates in the charreada, or Mexican rodeo. Charros are experts in horsemanship, rope tricks, bull riding and steer roping. One of the most recognized symbols of Mexico is associated with the charro – his tightly tailored suit and vest, adorned with embroidery and silver buttons, worn with a soft tie and wide brimmed sombrero. Mexico's history and complexity are captured in this time-honored suit that represents the nation's passion for ritual, custom and tradition. When we started our restaurant in 2001, we wanted a name that captured the heritage of Mexico as well as the cowboy history of Livermore. "El Charro" is a perfect symbolic reflection of both worlds.
